New editions since 2019
Philip Gossett, a pioneering figure in research into 19th century opera, died in Chicago, on 13 June 2017. A professor at the Universities of Chicago and Rome “La Sapienza”, editor of the critical editions of Rossini and Verdi, and a prolific essayist, he devoted a substantial part of his efforts to the dissemination of the most advanced musicological knowledge to both a specialist and general public. This included working with Vox Imago as artistic supervisor from 2004 to 2014.
Here we list all the listening guides Gossett wrote and published in the series over these ten years. They cover a wide range of very different composers, periods and genres. The American scholar’s participation in the project also included his presence in the documentaries produced over the period. It has thus been possible to gather a lot of audio-video material, some fragments of which are published here. Finally, in an attempt to bear witness to the profound professional and personal relationships Gossett enjoyed during his career, some scholars have been asked to give Vox Imago a short recollection their experience of working with him.
